It’s true that nowadays there’s an app for everything imaginable. From airlines to Uber, there are millions of clever smart phone applications aimed at helping us save time, be more productive and improve our health. For the New Year I thought it would be helpful to share my five favorite health apps. Give them a try and let  me know what you think!

Headspace is an app for guided meditation. The company offers a 10-day free trial so there’s no excuse not to give it a try!

The Flux app blocks blue light from your devices, which can wreak havoc on your evening melatonin production. Melatonin is an incredibly important hormone that’s required for sleep.  Melatonin production is something we want to encourage in the evening, not block with artificial light.

Brain fm is music for the brain. It works like a charm for napping, sleeping at night or just plain relaxing.

I love Dminder for it’s ability to remind you when you can catch some beneficial rays of sunshine to maximize your vitamin D levels. It does this by tracking the angle of the sun  in your area. Then it will count up or down to your target, applying all the factors that determine how much D you can get: skin tone, age, weight, amount of skin exposed.

Clue is an app for women only (sorry guys!). It’s my favorite app for tracking my monthly cycle. My teenage daughter loves it, too, so you know it’s cool.  You can track cycle length, physical symptoms and emotions. Clue will predict your cycle three months out it will even remind you when you’re about to ovulate or your cycle is about to begin.

I hope you find at least a few of these apps helpful for improving your health in 2017. Until next time, make every bite count!
